Obituary for Omer J. La Douceur

Omer J. La Douceur, 91, of La Crosse passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at his home.  Omer was born July 2, 1918 in Belcourt, ND to Edward and Rose Alba (Poirier) La Douceur.  Omer was raised in Chicago, IL.  In 1931 the family moved to Mora, MN where they farmed.  He enlisted in the Army on February 2, 1942 and was given an Honorable Discharge on September 22, 1945.  He served in the Chemical Warfare Service-Hawaii Division 8th Chemical Battalion.  He married Beatrice "Betty" Werth on October 23, 1947 in La Crosse, WI.  Omer worked at Trane Company for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1983.
Omer is survived by his wife, Betty and their five children, Reginald of La Crosse, Paul of West Salem, Janet (Robert) Bittner of Redding, CA, and Karen Rybold and Marilyn (Michael) Johnson of Bangor; one grandson, Taylor Rybold; one granddaughter, Michaela Johnson; one sister, Faye (Bruno) Jarvis of Golden Valley, MN; two brothers, Joseph (Louise) of Omak, WA and George (Marion) of St. Cloud, MN; one sister-in-law, Virginia La Douceur of Duluth, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Roseanne; and two brothers, Maurice (in childhood) and Hector.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 West Avenue South, La Crosse.  The Reverend Richard Pamperin will officiate and burial with Military Honors will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, 1425 Jackson Street, La Crosse on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
The family would like to thank all of the health care professionals at Gundersen Lutheran who cared for Omer during his recent hospitalization.  Also, thanks to the 911 dispatchers, Tri-State Ambulance, La Crosse Fire Department and La Crosse Police Department.  Thank you to the pastors and the Reception Committee of First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
